Thanks to his second place in Race 2 of the Seoul ePrix this Sunday behind Eduardo Mortara, Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes) became Formula E world champion for the first time in his career.
Starting fourth on the starting grid, he gave no chance to his rival, Mitch Evans (Jaguar) and managed to keep his place after the first corner before taking advantage of a touchdown between Antonio Felix Da Costa and Jake Dennis to climb to second place.
After winning a race in Monaco and finishing on eight podiums, the Belgian is rewarded for his consistency throughout the season.
He becomes the second Belgian to be crowned world champion in motorsport after Jacky Ickx, in 1982 and 1983. On the constructors' side, Mercedes won the championship for the second consecutive time ahead of Rokit.
Several pileups in Seoul
And the Seoul ePrix was also marred by pile-ups.
During race 1, eight single-seaters were involved in an accident.
On the first lap, on a wet track, the cars failed to take the corner and ended the race in the wall.
Great to see all seven drivers walk away unscathed from this incident at the start of the race.
Round 15 is currently under red flag conditions as the cars are recovered from the track.

The Dutch driver, Nyck de Vries (Mercedes EQ), was stuck for a long time under the car of SĂ©bastien Buemi (Nissan), while the Frenchman, Jean-Eric Vergne, thanked the halo for having saved his life on the social networks.
And this Sunday another pileup took place with the German Maximilian Gunther who hit the wall.
The race was therefore stopped for about ten minutes.
