After Manchester United's humiliation, Cristiano Ronaldo's side are sobered up early in the season.
With the new coach Erik ten Hag, the English record champions fell back to last place in the Premier League for the first time in 30 years with a 0:4 (0:4) against FC Brentford.
Coach Erik ten Hag criticized his star ensemble after the game in clear words.
"You can't concede four goals in 35 minutes as Man United," said the 52-year-old.
The Dutchman commented on his three changes during the half-time break: "I could have changed them all." The defeat saw Man United slip to bottom of the English Premier League for the first time in 30 years.
"A very poor performance," said ten Hag, who took over the team around star player Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.
"I've been watching United for 42 years and I can't remember a moment when I've felt it as bad as the first half," said club legend Gary Neville, who is a Sky Sports pundit.
"What a first half of football we're seeing here: the destruction of Manchester United."
United conceded four goals in a desolate first half within 25 minutes from Josh Dasilva (10'), Mathias Jensen (18'), Ben Mee (30') and Bryan Mbeumo (35').
Goalkeeper David de Gea made several mistakes and was then self-critical.
'That is my responsibility.
I cost my team three points,” said the Spaniard.
"It was a poor performance on my part." Ronaldo, who was willing to make a change, was in the starting line-up and played through.
United were last at the bottom of the table at the end of a day in August 1992.
In the first Premier League season, the club also started with two defeats - but won the championship at the end of the season.
On Sunday and Monday, several teams with high losses could slip behind the Red Devils.
On the third day of play, the club welcomes Liverpool FC from coach Jürgen Klopp.
