European Swimming Championships: Leitrovsky missed a medal in the 700 meters, Gorbenko in the final Israel today

The swimmer Michael Leitrovski, this evening (Monday) missed a medal at the European Championships being held in Rome, Italy, by only seven hundredths, in the 50 meter backstroke.

Leitrovski, who celebrates his 23rd birthday today, finished the distance in a time of 24.75 seconds, with the German Brunschwig Ola in third ahead of him with 24.68 seconds, while the Greek Apostolos Christo won the gold and the Italian Thomas Ciccone completed the podium picture with 24.40 seconds.

As I remember, in the semi-finals Leitrovski already signaled his intention, when he set a new personal record of 24.74 seconds, an improvement of one-tenth to his previous record set in 2019, and moved up from third place to the final.

The talented swimmer who also represented Israel at the Olympic Games in Tokyo last summer, continues his line of progress, when he was also ranked 12th at the 2019 World Championships.

Gorbenko in another step to defend her title 

Anastasia Gorbenko continues her journey towards defending her title in the 200 meter individual medley, when she advanced to the final that will take place tomorrow at 20:36.

The 19-year-old Gorbenko achieved a result of 2:12.91 minutes in the semi-finals, which advanced her to the final stage from fifth place overall.

Chris Picchugin participated in the semi-finals in the 50 meter breaststroke.

The Israeli who set a time of 27.48 seconds in the qualifiers and qualified from ninth place in the calculation of two swimmers per country, finished in the next stage with 27.68 seconds, a slower time than the qualifiers, which was enough for 11th place.

After stunning the world with a new world record in the 100 meter freestyle, David Popovich tried to reproduce it in the double distance as well and against the cheers of the crowd, he settled for "only a youth world record with 1:42.97 minutes.
