Schwartzman advanced to the second round after defeating Slovenian Alex Mulkan, ranked 39 in the world, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 in a period of two hours and 37 minutes.
Schwartzman will next face his Russian rival Aslan Karatsev, ranked 38 in the world.
