FC Bayern chief scout Pirmin Schwegler paid a visit to his old home on Sunday to observe an interesting midfielder.

Bern – As a top European club, FC Bayern follows the maxim of having the best possible trained talent in their own ranks.

Especially in German-speaking countries, the people of Munich scout diligently for promising players.

The former professional and current Bayern chief scout Pirmin Schwegler recently showed up at his ex-club Young Boys Bern – but for professional reasons.

Because in the Super League game against Servette Geneva, he observed one of the hottest midfield stocks in Europe.

FC Bayern apparently observes Fabian Rieder: "One or two leagues too high for me"

Since making his professional debut in October 2020, 20-year-old Fabian Rieder has developed into one of the most sought-after young players in the Swiss football league.

So far, the central midfielder has featured in 80 competitive games for the capital club and has contributed seven goals and prepared 15 more.

In the previous five league games, the Swiss U21 international has shined with two goals and two assists.

Last Sunday, too, Rieder scored the 1-0 lead against Servette with his strong left foot.

As a former Swiss national player and former Berner, Bayern chief scout Schwegler immediately noticed, which is why Rieder was asked after the game about the prominent grandstand guest and an alleged interest from FC Bayern.

"Basically, that's just speculation, but I think FC Bayern Munich is still a league or two too high for me," said the native of Bern to

, adding: "I know that I'm in very good hands here and that I still have a lot to improve.

And I try to do that every day.”

Rieder did not want or could not comment on his future, but spoke humbly about Bayern.

“You have to see what the right move is.

Bayern is one of the best teams in the world and it remains to be seen whether I would have a chance of playing in my first or second year.” Rieder is still under contract with the Young Boys until 2025, and only extended it in July.

Since the move from Xherdan Shaqiri in the 2012/13 season, the German record champions have not signed a player from the Swiss elite class for the professional team.

This could soon change with ex-Bundesliga professional Pirmin Schwegler, who has been working in the scouting department since November 2020 and has headed it since July 2021.

Although Rieder's position at FC Bayern would already be occupied by top-class players, the Munich team will at least keep an eye on him.
