A wonderful achievement for the Israeli delegation on the third day of the European Swimming Championships.

For the second time in a row, Anastasia Gorbenko won the gold medal in the 200 meter medley this evening (Tuesday) when she stopped the clock in the pool in Rome at 2:10.92 minutes.

Gorbenko got off to a great start and led after the first 50 meters, from there she only widened the gap until the last pool.

The Israeli lost a little of the gap in the last stretch, but managed to keep the first place and secure the gold medal.

Dutch Marit Steenbergen finished second with 2:11.14 minutes, Sarah Franceschi third with 2:11.38.

* The 4x200 mixed relay team, consisting of Denis Loktev, Bar Soloveitchik, Daria Golovati and Leah Polonsky, qualified for the finals from seventh place in the qualifiers, after setting a result of 7:44.06 minutes.

The final is at 21:01 Israel time.

* Miron Haruti qualified for the semi-finals in the 50 meter freestyle.

The Israeli finished fifth in his qualifying session with a time of 22.21 seconds - the 12th best result in qualifying.

Now Haruti will hope to also succeed in the semi-finals, which will be held at 19:24 Israel time.

* Ron Polonsky and Eitan Ben Shatrit qualified for the semi-finals in the 200 meter individual medley.

The two competed in the same qualifying heat - Polonsky finished second with 2:01.05 minutes (sixth overall in qualifying), his friend finished third with 2:01.55 minutes (ninth overall).

* The most crowded relay for the Israelis was the 100-meter backstroke qualifier, in which no less than four representatives took part in the delegation, but none of them managed to qualify for the semi-finals.

Michael Leitrovski, who recorded a tremendous achievement last night when he came fourth in Europe in the 50-meter backstroke final, finished last in his event (35th in the qualifiers) with 56.70 seconds.

David Gerchik finished fourth in his relay with 55.87 seconds (27th in the qualifiers), Adam Maraena finished eighth in his relay with 56.95 seconds (36th in the qualifiers), while Inbar Danziger finished tenth in his relay with 56.40 seconds (34th in the qualifiers).
