On the second day of the Bundesliga, Thomas Müller received top marks for his game.

At the same time, he even overtakes a Bayern legend.

Munich – Thomas Müller got off to a good start in the league with FC Bayern.

On Sunday, the record champions were on the pitch against VfL Wolfsburg.

Even though there weren't any fireworks like in the last few games, Bayern didn't have too much trouble and won 2-0.

Müller himself made an outstanding game and was involved in both goals: he provided the assist for the first, and converted the second himself. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge's tip that Müller could become the next top scorer in the league doesn't seem so far-fetched.

Müller overtakes "Katsche" Schwarzenbeck in the all-time FCB ranking

But that's not the only reason Thomas Müller has reason to celebrate.

Because with the game against VfL Wolfsburg he reached his next milestone in the Bayern squad.

He played his 417th Bundesliga game for FC Bayern and left another legend behind in the club's all-time rankings.

The Raumdeuter has now played one more game than Georg "Katsche" Schwarzenbeck.

This puts the 32-year-old in fourth place in the ranking.

Only one outfield player is ahead of him in the list: the late star striker Gerd Müller – he played 427 games for the record champions.

The same applies to "Titan" Oliver Kahn, he too has completed 427 games for the club.

Today he is the CEO of the Munich company.

Is Sepp Maier's top position in danger?

At the very top of the all-time ranking is another goalkeeper legend: Sepp Maier.

The “Cat from Anzing” made an astounding 473 appearances for FC Bayern.

Of course, the question arises: does Thomas Müller have a chance to catch up with the great Sepp Maier?

His contract normally runs until 2024. If Müller manages to be on the pitch in every league game by then, he would make it to an impressive 483 games and would have secured the record.

A problem for Müller could possibly be that the competition within the team is enormous.

A place in the starting eleven is by no means guaranteed.

But Müller is currently in top form and it seems quite possible that he could top the rankings in 2024.

Either way, Müller is riding a wave of success and is in the best of moods.

After the game against VfL Wolfsburg, he was particularly happy about one thing: "I'm most pleased that we had the first game back in the arena.

The spectators were great, the mood was good, the weather was wonderful, the pitch was great – then we also won 2-0.” His outlook for the future: “We have fun together and remain both euphoric and humbled at the same time ."
