Hapoel Tel Aviv has been looking for a foreign defender for the past few weeks, and this morning (Wednesday) professional manager Omer Boxenbaum and coach Kobi Yarofa got what they were looking for: 28-year-old Antoine Conte, ex-Beitar Jerusalem player who played successfully for four years in the right-back position, concluded his terms at Hapoel Tel Aviv for the season with an option for another season and will sign subject to passing medical tests.

Conte, who started his career in the French Reims, arrived at Beitar Jerusalem in February 2017. He became a permanent team player in the capital, but in February 2021 he was released and at the beginning of last season he signed for one season in the Romanian Craiova. In its ranks, he made a total of 13 appearances in all settings.

Conte missed last season's opener in Romania due to a leg injury and even after returning to the pitch, injured his knee and was sidelined once more for an extended period.

He returned to full fitness only in February and was soon injured again - a total of 552 minutes last season, of which 289 were in the league.

As is well known, Conte arrived at the Jerusalem Beitar after leaving France following a trial that was conducted against him. At the end of a lengthy trial following that attack on a 19-year-old young man with a baseball bat, he was sentenced to one year in prison and another two years on probation - but his sentence was commuted and he did not sit behind bars. During his time in Israel, Konte was one of the most prominent foreign players and to his credit over 80 appearances in the Premier League, but in the end he was thrown out of Beitar following repeated disciplinary infractions, when on one occasion he entered Eli Ohana's room and a physical confrontation almost developed due to insurance issues he did not settle.

Conte even sued Beitar Jerusalem and won NIS 600,000. In the

past, Conte played in all of France's youth teams and in October 2019 he was called up to the senior Guinea national team for the first time.
