Hapoel Eilat announced today (Wednesday) the addition of the former team captain, Avi Ben Shimol, to the position of the club's sporting director.
Ben Shimol (37), who has a rich career in the league and in the Israeli national teams, first arrived in Eilat in the summer of 2012 immediately after its promotion to the Premier League, and was one of the most important players in Oded Ketch's squad.
In the 2018/19 season, Ben Shimol returned for another term in Eilat, during which he led the team to the Final Four for the first time after two years.
Ben Shimol scored a total of 500 points in the team's uniform.
In the summer of 2021, Ben Shimol announced his retirement from basketball.
Ben Shimol commented on returning to the team: "Happy and excited to be back, I missed the city, the fans and basketball a lot.
I wish all of us great success and I am sure that together we will continue the work with great professionalism and striving for achievements.'
The chairman of the team, Tal Pinchas, also commented on Avi's addition to the team: "I am happy about the return of Avi Ben Shimol to the ranks of the club in the position of sports director.
I am sure that Hapoel Eilat will enjoy his personal qualities and the extensive knowledge and experience he has gained in basketball.
My father will fill a very significant and important position for the continued professional development of the club, and will manage all the professional processes in the club - from the basketball school, the youth department to the seniors in the Premier League.
I wish my father and the club the best of luck."
