Germany's long jump star Malaika Mihambo was unable to defend her title at the European Athletics Championships in Munich.
The 28-year-old won the silver medal on Thursday evening with a jump of 7.03 meters.
Gold went to Ivana Vuleta from Serbia (7.06) and bronze to Jazmin Sawyers from Great Britain (6.80).
Mihambo only celebrated her second gold at the World Championships in Eugene in July.
Last year she had already been crowned Olympic champion at the 2021 Summer Games in Tokyo.
She became European champion at the home European Championships in Berlin in 2018, and a year later she became world champion for the first time in Doha.
In preparation for the EM, however, Mihambo had been weakened by the corona virus.
She had to stop training for ten days because of the illness.
In the meantime, even her start at the European Championships was on the brink.
