The dissatisfaction led to the fact that the Madridians expressed an interest in parting with Griezmann already this summer, mainly to get rid of his heavy burden, but this has not come to fruition so far.

According to the clauses in the agreement between Barcelona and Atlético, the purchase obligation in the amount of 40 million euros will be activated only if over the two seasons Griezmann plays at least 45 minutes in 50% of the games in which he is eligible.

Last year, the Frenchman played 45 minutes or more in 33 out of 40 games (not including those in which he was absent due to suspension or injury), no less than 82.5%.

Griezmann started the current season in a great way, with a goal in Atlético's 0:3 win over Getafe, but in that game he only came on as a substitute in the 62nd minute, so the match in the opening match is not taken into account in the count.

The Colchoneros are not interested in paying Barcelona the stated amount, but in Spain they estimate that they will be forced to do so if Griezmann plays the necessary time in about 30% of the games in which Diego Simeone will have at his disposal.

If he nevertheless continues this season in Madrid, it is not impossible that he will permanently become Simeone's joker from the bench in order to escape the payment and say goodbye to the player at the end of the loan.

Another option, according to Spain, is that the two clubs will reach a compromise and agree on lower transfer fees.

Now we have to wait and see if Barcelona, ​​which is systematically trying to cut costs in order to strengthen itself in the transfer market, will be willing to give up such an amount.
