Marc Márquez, great protagonist in Austria without getting on the bike: "It was to take this road or retire"

The Cervera rider visits his team after his operation a month and a half ago to re-enter the group dynamics and help correct Honda's course with an eye on 2023

It had been two and a half months since Marc Márquez had walked through the paddock or appeared before the media.

His visit to his team during the thirteenth stop of the MotoGP World Championship in Austria made him the main protagonist of the event without even being able to get on the bike yet.

In fact, not even he himself is clear when he will be able to return to the track.

“Next week I will have a CT scan, and the result will tell me if I can return this season,” he explained this Thursday from Spielberg, where a downpour with hurricane winds ended up shortening his expected intervention.

“This is safe right?

It would be what I needed, ”he joked before the capsizing of the HRC motorhome.

The Cervera pilot advanced that he feels well on the right track and knows that his decision to undergo surgery last June was the correct one.

"It was either take this path or retire," he confirmed when speaking of the fourth operation on his battered right arm.

“When I can get on the bike for the first time I will be able to know if it has worked or not”.

The objective of the eighth world champion and main figure of the contest is to compete again this course, and he affirmed that he will do it when he feels at 70% of his possibilities.

"Getting on the bike is the best rehabilitation possible at that point," he said.

Unlike in 2020 and 2021, when he strayed too far from the team dynamics, this time he has decided to merge at a very difficult time for his factory: “Back then I lost contact a lot, and when I came back everything had changed too much.

I don't want to go through that again, and this time I maintain much more communication with my most direct team”.

Visiting day in Austria!

Very happy to meet again with my whole team!

Márquez, who took advantage of the Austrian hills to get on a bike for the first time after the operation, showed up at the Repsol Honda box with the desire to give a boost to a team in low hours.

In photos shared by the team, he was seen smiling alongside HRC director Tetsuhiro Kuwata and some mechanics.

“In difficult times, one person cannot make a difference.

I'm here to work as a team and I want to be involved."

In one of the worst World Championships of the Hamamatsu brand, he is still the driver with the most points in the table despite having only contested six races.

“All the riders have had a bad time on the bike, and that means that the project is not at its best moment”.

The presence of the 93 in Austria seeks to lay solid foundations for the 2023 campaign, and the rider mentioned the example of Ducati and the changes with a European stamp in the championship as the main point of reference.

“When I talk about changing things in the team, I don't mean people, but concepts.

For me, the most important thing is the issue of coordination, how information flows.

All the areas have to row together”, deepened the one from Cervera.

He dismissed, at least publicly, the need for a revolution in the brand's ranks.

Marquez says he is confident of returning to winning habits, and he made no bones about saying that his only goal, like Honda's, is to return to being world champions.
