This is the first time that the overall prize money for the tournament has exceeded 60 million.

Last year, the last Grand Slam raised was endowed with a total of 57.5 million, already a record.

This inflation is explained in particular by the desire to better remunerate the players who will be eliminated in the first rounds of the competition: 80,000 dollars for a defeat in the first round of the main draw (85% more than in 2016) and 121,000 in the second round (+57%).

In terms of qualifying, the total amount distributed will exceed $6.25 million (223% more than in 2016).

Same premiums for men and women

These bonuses, identical for men and women, were determined by the United States Tennis Federation (USTA) after consultation with the ATP Player Council and the WTA Player Council.

The main draw of the US Open will begin on August 29 at Flushing Meadows.

The last Grand Slam lifter was won last year by the Russian Daniil Medvedev in the men's category and by the young Briton Emma Raducanu in the women's category.
