In the “Bergkaiser” cycle race, the “Radteam Impuls” riders proved their strength on the mountain.

Dennis Biederer was only just left behind in the dramatic finish.

Innsbruck – Mountain finishes are usually not decided in a sprint.

In the last few years in the “Bergkaiser” race, there have also been significant gaps in the battle for the top places, ranging in seconds or even minutes.

Things were completely different this year – and a rider from Fischen's “Radteam Impuls” was involved.

Dennis Biederer fought a wheel-to-wheel duel with Mathias Lipka (Cycling Team Dorfen) for first place in the last kilometer.

Both had pulled away from two other competitors in the leading group.

In the final sprint, Biederer (29) lost out by a hair's breadth.

The Landsberger was just a tenth of a second behind.

Martin Wilhelm, the driving force behind the "Radteam Impuls", was by no means disappointed: "It makes us incredibly proud to have the 'Vizebergkaiser' in our ranks," was the conclusion.

A tenth of a second makes the difference in the end

At the end of the day, all three riders from the “Implus” team who competed in this mass start hill climb had each put in a strong performance and achieved a front place finish.

In the first chasing group, Florian Christ (27) finished seventh overall among around 120 participants.

The man from Sindelsdorf completed the 36 kilometers with 1400 meters of altitude difference from Innsbruck to Kühtai in 1:08:38 hours.

Biederer crossed the finish line in 1:06:56 hours.

About halfway through the race, the man from Landsberg pulled away from the peloton along with three other drivers.

Even a problem with the chain that forced him to stop briefly didn't faze him.

Biederer managed to catch up to the top again and thus demonstrated "his excellent form", praised Wilhelm.

Josef Stegherr celebrates class victory

For Josef Stegherr it was a special day in two respects: the man from Kinsau celebrated his 62nd birthday on the day of the competition and won the “Men 6” class with a time of 1:18:02 hours.

Stegherr's lead over second-placed Erwin Hickl was 1:41 minutes.

As in the previous year, Anna Plattner emerged as the fastest woman on a racing bike: The Tyrolean from the “Blacksheep Portixol Group” team crossed the finish line after 1:11:36 hours, which meant a course record.

In contrast to the men, the situation was clear: Second-placed Debora Agreiter (Italy) was 13:08 minutes behind.

Just a week before the "Bergkaiser" at the Kitzbüheler Horn cycle race, Plattner had already improved the current course record by around 20 seconds with a time of 35:27 minutes (7.5 kilometers/865 meters in altitude).

Tina Steinl and the "eternal drudgery"

Tina and Gerhard Steinl from Deutenhausen also tackled the demanding route at the “Bergkaiser” up to Kühtai, with ramps that were up to 20 percent steep in places.

Both started in the mountain bike category.

Tina Steinl repeated her class victory from 2019: With a time of 1:57:43 hours, the driver from "Team Orbea Germany" clearly distanced the second-placed rider - by more than 20 minutes.

Tina Steinl was satisfied, even if the way to the finish line was "a never-ending grind" for her, as she announced via "Facebook".

At the end, husband Gerhard Steinl was given “a small trophy too”.

The German from Deutenhausen took third place in his class with a time of 1:41:05 hours.

"Cool event.

We'll be back," Gerhard Steinl concludes.
