What a drama in Dortmund: Werder Bremen beat BVB 3-2 with two goals in added time after being 2-0 down.

That was the sensation of this third game day.

Bayer Leverkusen, who also lost to Hoffenheim, surprisingly remains at the bottom.

In the draw in Wolfsburg, Schalke's Simon Terodde managed to miss two penalties.

Freiburg won in Stuttgart, Augsburg lost to Mainz.

Borussia Dortmund looked set for a third win in three games, but then Werder Bremen came along.

The promoted team turned a dramatic game with two goals in added time.

The newly promoted team from Bremen had been the better team for long stretches in the first half and had several good chances, where Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel was able to excel.

BVB, who had to play without the ailing Donyell Malen and Karim Adeyemi, found it difficult, the 1-0 lead fell out of nowhere: Julian Brandt took the break whistle from the edge of the penalty area unmolested by the Werder defense Ball landed untenable in the right corner (45th + 3 minutes).

The picture changed little after the change, Werder had significantly more game shares.

Instead, Raphaël Guerreiro seemed to dispel any doubts about BVB's success with a long-range shot in the 77th minute.

Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that.

Werder's Lee Buchanan first shortened the lead in the 89th minute, then Bremen really struck: Niklas Schmidt and Oliver Burke gave BVB a knockout

VfB Stuttgart suffered their first defeat of the season. VfB lost their home game against SC Freiburg 0-1 (11th) due to an early goal conceded by the guests.

Coach Christian Streich's team celebrated their second away win.

Vincenzo Grifo benefited early on from the relaxed attitude of the Stuttgart defence, which sent a cross through the entire penalty area, Grifo stood at the far corner and was able to score unchallenged.

VfB then ran into the deficit and had several chances to equalize, but Freiburg goalkeeper Mark Flekken kept getting in the way.

The Dutchman, who had blundered badly against Dortmund last week, appeared to have recovered well.

First the cup, then three bankruptcies in three league games: Bayer Leverkusen's crisis is taking on a threatening shape for coach Gerardo Seoane.

The Champions League participant also suffered a defeat against 1899 Hoffenheim and is still bottom of the table after the 0:3 (0:2).

The guests mercilessly exposed Bayer's defense weaknesses.

Christoph Baumgartner (9th) opened the game with a remarkable back-heel, Andrej Kramaric increased after 35 minutes with his first goal of the season with a header.

And Bayer could still be happy that they weren't even 0:3 behind at the break, another goal by Hoffenheim was disallowed again because of a previous foul play.

Bayer made an effort after the break, but the guests' victory was never seriously threatened.

On the contrary: Georginio Rutter refined the away win in the 77th minute with the 3:0 after a remarkable individual action.

Schalke 04's away game at VfL Wolfsburg ended 0-0 without a goal.

Both teams are still waiting for a win in the new season, with one point each they are in 13th place (Schalke) and 14th place (Wolfsburg).

The only highlight of the game came before the half-time break.

When there was a free ball in the Wolfsburg penalty area, Schalke striker Simon Terodde pushed past Micky van de Ven to spy on the ball.

The Dutchman had already swung his shot – and went straight through.

From below he hit Terodde on the outstretched leg, which referee Felix Zwayer punished with a penalty according to the slow motion view.

The fouled man wanted to take the chance to lead himself, but VfL goalkeeper Koen Casteels parried the weak shot into the right corner.

Terodde's margin went over the goal.

But the 34-year-old got another chance: According to Zwayer, Casteels left the goal line too early and the penalty was repeated.

Terodde again chose the right corner, but his shot was neither precise nor hard - and Casteels also thwarted the second attempt (45 + 3).

Josuha Guilavogui's supposed 1-0 lead to Wolfsburg in the second half was canceled for offside (66').

Mainz 05 won in Augsburg with a goal in added time.

Substitute Lee Jae-sung headed in after a corner kick to make it 2-1 (90+3).

Mainz is still undefeated and is second in the table after three games with seven points.

It was the second defeat for Augsburg.

In the first half, Mainz had already taken the lead through Karim Onisiwo, who didn't give Augsburg keeper Rafał Gikiewicz a chance after a one-two with Angelo Fulgini (31').

But the 1-0 didn't last long.

After Augsburg moved sideways over several stations, Felix Uduokhai played flat from the left to Ermedin Demirovic in the centre.

The Bosnian got the ball easily in the back, but found a creative solution: he shot high into the far corner with his left heel.

Zentner couldn't get close (35th).

Mainz got the chance to make it 2-1 in the 60th minute when Augsburg's Carlos Gruezo knocked Jonathan Burkardt off his feet in his own penalty area.

However, Gikiewicz was able to save Aaron's penalty (62').

According to the transmitted pay-TV broadcaster Sky, it was Mainz's first missed penalty in the Bundesliga since 2013. According to this, a series of 36 successful attempts in a row was broken.
