Union Berlin got off to a brilliant start in this Bundesliga season.

The Berliners countered RB Leipzig mercilessly on Matchday 3 in a 2-1 (2-0) win and took second place in the table with seven points at least until Sunday.

On the other hand, RB Leipzig with its high ambitions is still without a win after three match days.

One can already speak of a false start to the new season.

Union Berlin fans had once again remained silent for the first 15 minutes in protest against the RB club structure.

Shortly after the supporters' silence period had expired, however, RB initially had the best chance to date.

Timo Werner anticipated a long pass to the top, lifted the ball past Union goalkeeper Frederik Rönnow – but only on the post.

Then came the time of Union counter-footballers.

In the 32nd minute, Sheraldo Becker was sent on his way, just before the penalty area he fitted into Jordan Siebatcheu's path and the new Union striker converted ice cold.

Five minutes later, Becker ran towards the RB defense again, was not prevented from penetrating the penalty area, Becker made another swerve and then shot in.

Goalkeeper Janis Blaswich, replacing the injured Péter Gulácsi, was powerless in both situations.

However, the Leipzig defense seemed taken by surprise both times.

With this score we went into the break.

RB started and tried, but Union remembered what they were always good at in Köpenick: closing the spaces in their own half so tightly that the opponent could hardly get through.

In the 68th minute, RB found a gap once, but Marcel Halstenberg's shot was cleared off the line.

So it took until the 83rd minute for Leipzig to score.

Willi Orban turned a corner kick into a goal.

Three years ago, when Union rose, RB Leipzig was Berlin's first Bundesliga opponent.

The guests then won 4-0 without any problems.

The comparison with the current game shows what has happened in Berlin since then.
