Despite SC Freiburg's 1-0 win at VfB Stuttgart, Christian Streich was tough on his team - and on himself too.
Stuttgart – Christian Streich was visibly relieved.
After SC Freiburg's 1-0 win at VfB Stuttgart, the Baden cult coach seemed exhausted at the subsequent press conference in the Mercedes-Benz Arena and was obviously just as exhausted throughout the season as his team was on the pitch.
The Breisgauer kidnapped three points from the Swabian soccer temple in Bad Cannstatt, but apart from the game-winning goal by Vincenzo Grifo and another big chance, they had practically no offensive options and had to keep VfB Stuttgart away from their own goal permanently.
"We wanted to take the risk of starting up high, but in the first half it was too slow, too sluggish, one or the other of our players lost too many tackles and so we couldn't keep the pressure from VfB away," summarized Christian Streich .

Ultimately, Grifo's instinctive run through in the 11th minute was enough to seal the second win of the young Bundesliga season on Saturday afternoon (20 August).
"Of course it's clear that we want to play football differently, no question about it," said Freiburg coach Streich critically.
And the same with yourself. “When you win like that 1-0, it's difficult to assess your own strength.
We could have lost 2-1.
I am not happy with.
There are some things I and we need to work through.”
Christian Streich: "You no longer have 100% outside influence"
In the second half only VfB Stuttgart played forward and tried everything they could to equalize.
Left-back Borna Sosa, who returned to the starting XI, had the best chance when he came free in front of Freiburg keeper Mark Flekken, but then opted for the direct finish instead of the probably more promising flat pass to Josha Vagnoman.
SC Freiburg coach Christian Streich praised the hosts' style of play after the final whistle and admitted: "We wanted to invest more in the second half, but VfB were clearly better and my players then also think it's 1 :0 and don't want to offer any more errors.
You no longer have 100% outside influence.”
