Lithuanian Mykolas Alekna, 19, was crowned European discus throwing champion on Friday in Munich, 16 years after his father Virgilijus, legend of the discipline.
With a throw of 69.78m, a championship record, Alekna beat Slovenian favorite Kristjan Ceh (68.28m) and Briton Lawrence Okoye (67.14m).
Mykolas Alekna, still a junior, follows in the footsteps of his father Virgilijus, crowned European champion in 2006 in Gothenburg (Sweden).
In this same Olympic stadium in Munich, the father had finished 2nd in the Euro in 2002.
Above all, Virgilijus Alekna has two Olympic titles (2000 and 2004) and two world titles (2003 and 2005).
Mykolas finished 2nd at the Worlds in Eugene (USA) last month behind Ceh.
