Bagnaia tops the Ducati festival at the Austrian GP

The Italian achieves his third consecutive victory, although the leader Fabio Quartararo minimizes damage with the second position and gains ground on Aleix Espargaró (6th)

Francesco Bagnaia once again took out the hammer to achieve his third consecutive victory in the MotoGP World Championship and continue to put pressure on the leader of the contest, a Fabio Quartararo who was the only rider capable of resisting the Ducati festival at the Austrian GP.

On a fetish track for the Borgo Panigale factory, seven wins in the nine races held on this track, the Italians left the event as team and manufacturer leaders after placing four bikes in the top five places.

The main title that eludes them, that of pilots – which they have not achieved since 2007 – is still somewhat far away with the 44-point margin that the French champion has over the mainstay of the red squad.

Jack Miller, who did not drop from the first three places in any session of the weekend, finished off the job with another magnificent performance to complete the podium and the red party.

In a race that put a smile on Jorge Martín –who battled with all his brand-mates and saw how his rival for the second official Ducati, Enea Bastianini, retired on the sixth lap due to technical problems–, the man from Madrid wanted to force for third position and crashed on the last lap due to over braking and turning angle in the first corner.

He was able to save the bike and enter a tenth place that he will know very little knowing that the Spielberg test was the last to impress the bosses.

Gigi Dall'Igna, the person most responsible for him, raised her head in her hands when he saw the Spaniard's attempted pass over the Australian.

In an Austrian GP with the focus away from the tracks, the drivers returned to sign a beautiful race on the renovated Spielberg track.

The new chicane, introduced to reduce the risks of a third corner that almost decapitated Viñales and Rossi in 2020, improved safety and also strengthened the Ducati's strengths.

On this occasion there was no end to the film before Bagnaia's escape, the second Italian after his mentor Valentino to win three consecutive races in the premier class.

Aleix Espargaró, resigned to the Aprilia's lack of pace throughout the weekend, struggled to scratch a sixth place that makes him lose ground in the fight for the championship.

The one from Granollers is now 32 points behind a Quartararo who activated the "God mode", as he himself said after a suffered Saturday,

to save the furniture in the Ring.

His performance, well above a Yamaha that doesn't work for anyone else, managed to seal the best result for the Japanese brand on the Austrian track.

Joan Mir, who fell on the first lap after a horrible flight, took the worst part and left the circuit with a broken ankle.

Luca Marini, fourth, and Johann Zarco, fifth, completed the domain of the Ducati, the bike that should be the main source of inspiration for the rest of the manufacturers according to Marc Márquez.

The presence of the Catalan, who focused media attention on Austria without being able to get on the bike, once again made clear his ascendancy on a grid in need of stars.

His trip, by no means routine, also served to frighten those responsible for a Honda in low hours –his brother Álex was the first Japanese rider in 14th place–, to whom he suggested that the problem was them and not the bike.

The Cervera champions also made headlines after learning of his separation from Emili Alzamora, his lifelong agent, a novelty reported by El Periódico de Catalunya.

In the midst of the hype over sprint races,

Japanese dominance and brilliance of Muñoz in the rest of the categories

The Moto3 test in Austria once again left a trail of spectacle with the comebacks of Ayumu Sasaki, who achieved victory despite being in 21st position on the fifth lap after serving two long lap penalties in the race.

Also on the podium was 16-year-old David Muñoz, from Seville, who started 16th and finished with a creditable third.

The new pearl of Spanish motorcycling already has two appearances in the box in six appearances in the World Championship.

Tatsuki Suzuki was second in a test that slightly widened Sergio García's (5th) margin at the head of the championship after a nice fight with his Aspar teammate Izan Guevara (7th), the other main contender for the title.

In Moto2, Ai Ogura saved the attack of his teammate in the penultimate corner of the race to take another victory and the leadership of the World Championship.

Somkiat Chantra was second and Jake Dixon third after overtaking Pedro Acosta in the final lap.

The rider from Mazarrón, who was returning to the competition after two months away due to a broken leg, completed a great weekend with fourth place.

Augusto Fernández, who finished fifth in Austria, falls to second place in the world championship with a single point behind the Japanese rider from Honda.
