The new European champion was moved to tears during the anthem: "It was not an easy time after Tokyo and everything was released" • On the injury he suffered: "I had some problems with my muscles and I only prepared for two and a half weeks" • On the following ambitions: "I want to prepare a new exercise that no one has done "

Olympic champion Artyom Dolgopiat celebrated his second European Champion title today (Sunday), when he achieved a score of 14.966 points.

Anyone who knows Dolgopiat could see how excited he is on the podium, on the verge of tears - which does not usually happen with him, this is after a difficult period, when he arrived at the competition with an injury and without full preparation.

"The truth is, I was very excited this time," Dolgopiat told Israel Hayom.

"It wasn't such an easy time, so everything was suddenly released. Very happy to return to my first major competition after the Olympics. The preparation was not so successful and there was not much time. Also to compete here in Munich, when yesterday we were at the 50th anniversary ceremony for the athletes in the Olympic Games, To come and voice the hope here, it's very exciting, it was part of my excitement and I'm glad I was able to do it again."

And yet you haven't reached peak fitness with an injury

"Yes, it wasn't easy, even in the qualifiers I did five apparatus and I had some problems with my muscles, I only prepared for two and a half weeks. In the qualifiers I did a good exercise on the ground, except for one strip, but in those two days we worked and made the corrections and in the final I was able to make the corrections."

And seeing all the achievements in the expedition in the other branches in the last two weeks, did he give you a boost?

"Of course, I haven't been to the competitions, but I've heard about them all, it's obviously very fun to hear about so many achievements in all kinds of branches."

I saw your father hanging out with you, besides getting a kiss from him what did he say to you?

"He told me I did a good exercise, gave me a kiss and a hug, a lot of warm words. This is not the first time he came with me, it was also in 2019. I'm fine with him coming, I'm a big boy and focused on my own in the competition."

Olympic, European champion - now a world champion is missing.

"Of course this is the next goal, I have to work hard. I want to prepare a new exercise and hope that now I can work on it, I will add new elements. It was difficult to get used to the new constitution, but I am experienced and in the meantime everything is difficult, because I worked on the previous exercise for five years. I am now a little I'm leaving with a little concern that I'm not 100 percent ready. I'll add a new element that no one in the world does and that will add another score to me."

"I want to add and say thank you to all the spectators and those who supported and were with me at that moment, and of course to my sponsors Danone Pro, Bank Hapoalim, Honda, Puzitsu, the Azoulai Group, my club - Maccabi Tel Aviv, the Gymnastics Association, the Olympic and Achievement Sports Committee, the coaching staff Sergi and Andrey, A great man who quickly returned to form with an injury now, and of course to my family."
