Frenetic cheering, sold-out spectator stands at Königsplatz, packed streets at the marathon and cycle races, streams of visitors in the Olympic Park: the European Championships were a celebration for us!

The European Championships in nine sports ended on Sunday.

And the balance sheet?

Consistently positive!

Already on Thursday, the organizers registered more than a million visitors at the sporting events and the festival The Roofs.

"It's fantastic that we reached our goal before the final weekend," says Marion Schöne, head of Olympiapark München GmbH.

European Championships in Munich: Mayor Dieter Reiter is also enthusiastic

"What euphoria in Munich," said sports mayor Verena Dietl (SPD).

“The atmosphere was gigantic, the city in a state of emergency.

From Königsplatz to Oberschleißheim, from the trade fair to the Rudi-Sedlmayer-Halle: the whole city experienced a new summer fairy tale.” For Dietl, the championships also showed that Munich was ready for the Olympics again.

"An application for the Olympic Summer Games as a great opportunity for our city and the region."

The positive vibe has spread throughout the city.”

Fantastic eleven days with a euphoric mood

Joachim Herrmann, Minister of Sport

Sports Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) was also enthusiastic.

"These were fantastic and inspiring eleven days with unforgettable moments and an almost euphoric atmosphere." The largest multi-sport event in Munich since the 1972 Olympics met expectations in every respect.

"The old Olympic sports venues shine in new splendor, the championships have set exemplary standards with the topic of sustainability and also created an appropriate backdrop for supposedly marginal sports."

European Championships in Munich: "The safety concept worked perfectly"

From the point of view of the top Bavarian police chief, the balance is just as positive.

"The security concept worked perfectly." The police had a lot more to do with wrongly parked cars than with rioters.

"Our operation concept has proven itself, because the many events all went without any significant disruptions," said the head of operations and senior police director Roland Helmig.

From August 11th to 21st, around 480 illegally parked vehicles were towed away on or near the event venues and along the competition routes.

On some days, up to 1,250 police officers were deployed at the same time.

The medical services were also on duty with many helpers: around 1,300 volunteers from Munich, Bavaria and other regions of Germany.

There were up to 300 paramedics, doctors, lifeguards, mountain rescuers or helpers per day.

Four medical stations in the Olympic Park were open daily as permanent contact points for those seeking medical help.

The Munich Red Cross and the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe helped the athletes and the public more than 750 times, mostly on an outpatient basis, as they announced on Sunday.
