Terrier leads the Rennes attack
Author of the Rennes opener thanks to a nice solo number, Martin Terrier was once again the instigator of the offensive game of Stade Rennais.
If the Bretons dominated by chaining clear chances and other big offensive opportunities, it is largely thanks to his offensive animation in which Terrier played a dominating role.
Driven by the cleanliness of his passing game, the former Lille resident repeatedly found Kalimuendo or Laborde with a touch of the ball or by combining properly in one-two.
With more than 75% of successful passes, he also caused three Corsican fouls.
Corsican set pieces
If the Ajacciens suffered, they nevertheless responded with a rather effective recipe by playing counterattacks and - rather well - set pieces thanks to Thomas Mangani.
They fired no less than eight corners, most of which provided an interesting scoring opportunity.
In general, Ajaccio dominated the aerial game this Sunday in Brittany.
Not enough to take a point but the players of Pantaloni have at least attempted several offensive incursions with a precise philosophy: to provoke free kicks and corners.
Too bad however for Mangani who missed his penalty withdrawn shortly before the break (45 + 2nd).
FLOPS
The right side of Ajaccio fragile
Between ball losses and lost duels, Cyrille Bayala and Mickaël Alphonse did not hold their rank on the right side of Ajaccio.
The first also came out at half-time after losing 14 balls in the first period, while losing nine of his thirteen duels against Rennes.
Alphonse does not fight better with 20 loss of balls and 10 duels lost out of 18. While Ajaccio wanted to be surgical in counterattacks, it was not necessary to chain the waste on the raises.
Martin Terrier too easily dictated the game in the last fifty Corsican meters on this too fragile right side.
Rennes has cracked again
Rennes finally pocketed their first victory but not without being scared.
The Bretons dominate their opponents, create clear chances and play rather interesting attacking football but do not always manage to be effective.
Too often, the Reds and Blacks let their strong moments slip by without materializing them and even today, like against Monaco, they fall into the trap and get back on the scoreboard.
It is a recurring concern at the start of the season that Bruno Génésio must manage to erase as quickly as possible so as not to lose any more avoidable points.
Arbitration episodes
Seven yellow cards, two reds, a controversial penalty, a big foul not whistled on Doué... Referee Hakim Ben el Hadj had his work cut out for him and drew whistles from Roazhon Park on several occasions.
He also expelled the 2nd Rennes goalkeeper Romain Salin for protest on the bench after a very big mistake forgotten on the roulette wheel of Doué (81st).
Warning also for Genesio who complained about the arbitration decisions.
He even nearly expelled Badé wrongly for a fault by Theate before reconsidering his decision.
On the Ajaccio side, Mr. Ben el Hadj is criticized for having had the penalty removed - which Mangani misses - after his first successful attempt (45+2nd).
The latter being sure to have heard the referee's whistle.
The sole of Ugochukwu (90 + 1st) on Marchetti is present but is it worth an exclusion when the Rennais had just come into play?
Another debate.
