Devastating record at the European Championships: Greatest suffering since Lazarus

My record of the European Championships is devastating, writes sports reporter Günter Klein in his column.

I was on the Radbahn - and women crashed their bullets into each other.

I was at the time trial in Fürstenfeldbruck - and after 24 kilometers Max Walscheid looked more battered than after the Tour de France.

I was in the Olympic Hall - and a gymnast couldn't accept the medal she had won because she was already in the hospital.

I was in the Olympic Stadium – and Gina Lückenkemper cut her knee, Malaika Mihambo passed out.

And that's not all.

The European Championships were the greatest tale of woe ever since Lazarus.

Even those who had won something and should have been happy told about the pain.

Marathon champ Richard Ringer: “I twisted my ankle three times this year, had stomach problems and corona.” Walker Christoph Linke (silver): “I have shin pain.

Walker disease.” Rad star Emma Hinze sat on a chair during the interview, with loud lactate in her legs she could no longer stand.

Also: "I threw up all day." Colleague Lisa Klein: "I have a stitch in my side.

I never have otherwise." Rower Oliver Zeidler: "I'm not feeling well, headache, dizziness."

Walker Nils Brembach remained physically unharmed.

But he cried: the whole clan, including in-laws, along the route – and he was disqualified for the first time in his life.

He was ashamed.

I guess I didn't bring any luck - but I survived the championships unscathed.
