A Brazilian runner participating in one of the mountain running events organized this week by the Ultra trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) died in an accident overnight from Monday to Tuesday, organizers said.
The trail runner, who participated in the PTL, an ultra-endurance pedestrian team event of 300 kilometers and 25,000 meters of elevation gain, “
was the victim of an accident
”, according to a press release.
This happened before 1:30 a.m. when the runner was with his team on "
the official route, permanently marked and equipped, between the Col de Tricot and the Refuge de Plan Glacier
" in the Mont massif .

A helicopter rescue team went to the scene and "
confirmed the death
", according to the UTMB Mont-Blanc.
The event has been maintained and all the teams participating in the race have been informed of the situation, specify the organizers.
The PTL (Petite Trotte à Léon) is one of the eight races organized this week by the UTMB Mont-Blanc, in which some 10,000 people in total should participate this year.
The queen event, an ultra-trail of 171 km, must start Friday from Chamonix with 2,300 runners.
