The sensational qualification of Maccabi Haifa to the group stage of the Champions League was covered all over the world - mainly because the Red Star Belgrade was marked as a clear favorite in the fiery "Marcana".
"The Red Star dismissed itself," wrote the Spanish AS, "Pavkov's own goal dashed the hopes of the Serbs and stunned the Israeli team as well."
In "Gazzetta dello Sport" they mainly focused on the discrimination of Red Star coach Dian Stankovic, Ex Lazio and Inter.
"Stankovic, what a joke," read the headline, "the big news of the evening came from Belgrade. The Red Star squandered a two-goal lead with two bad mistakes."
In the French "RMC" they described Haifa's qualification as a "sensation", in light of the fact that "the menacing Markana Stadium was hotter than ever", and in "L'Equipe" they noted that "Haifa recorded a great achievement, and did not break even for a moment.
They are not ignored in Europe either.

In Greece, on the other hand, they internalized that Olympiakos was not defeated for nothing against the champion of Israel.
"The football miracle of the summer is complete," SDNA wrote, "the Cinderella story of Olympiakos' rival continues, and she has proven that she deserves the status."
In Spain, they rejoiced for Pierre Curno, until recently an Oviedo player from the second division.
"Corno will play in the Champions League, after his Maccabi Haifa succeeded in the challenge in Markana," wrote one of the reporters covering Oviedo.
"Becher has a brave team with good players, like Dolev Haziza."
In Scotland, Barak Bacher was mentioned favorably.
"This is definitely a name that needs to be highlighted. He led Hapoel Beer Sheva to three championships and is now very dominant with Maccabi Haifa - and this when he is only 42 years old."
