Maccabi Haifa players celebrate with the fans (Section 27A of the Copyright Law)
Red Star Belgrade is still licking its wounds after the dramatic 2:2 draw with Maccabi Haifa, which ended last night (Tuesday) its path in the Champions League qualifiers and sent the Greens to the group stage.
"I am convinced that we were a better team than Maccabi Haifa, we should have done a better job at certain points," said the professional manager of the star Zabzdan Terzic.
"The fact is that we conceded goals without the opponent getting into situations. The first goal was from 35 meters and with the referee's assistance, and the second goal in the last minute of the game. It shows that we were unlucky. We were never closer to the Champions League in terms of quality, but the fact is that we failed."
Now the star will concentrate on the group stage of the Europa League.
"I'm proud of the atmosphere that was in the stadium," Terzic said.
"This is proof of how ready we are for the Champions League. I'm sad because we didn't do it, it's a big chance we missed. I expected us to go up and everyone was convinced and ready to fight for it. Now our first goal will be to win the championship, because the champion will go to the Champions League. We'll try To be strong both in the league and in Europe."

In Serbia tonight they attacked the management of the game by Diane Stankovic.
"The star's budget is three times that of Haifa, but an aggressive game, courage and unwillingness to give up led the Israelis to one of the greatest achievements in their history," reads one of the opinion columns.
"This is the third time that Stankovic has failed to win at home, against an opponent that is inferior on paper. The fans have gotten used to the highest expectations, and you cannot accept losses to opponents from Israel, Cyprus and Moldova. Stankovic is not the sole culprit, but something is clearly wrong with his attitude. In Europe You need to know how to reach the peak against certain opponents.
