Very significant news for Maccabi Haifa: Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked announced today (Thursday) that Green midfielder Ali Muhammad is expected to be defined as a temporary resident, meaning that he will be able to register for the various frameworks as an Israeli player.
"In recent months, I have received countless requests from the team's fans from all over the country to regulate Ali Muhammad's status. Ali is an outstanding player who brings a great deal of pride to the team and the State of Israel, and therefore I instructed the Population and Immigration Authority to grant him residency status subject to the presentation of the required documents," wrote Minister Shaked on her Facebook page.
Already at the end of the game in which Maccabi Haifa secured qualification to the group stage of the Champions League, thanks to the victory in the summary of the two meetings with Red Star Belgrade, the member of the Knesset wrote: "For all those asking about Ali Muhammad's citizenship, it is in process, at the stage of submitting the documents."
Now the instruction to complete the move has been given, and from the talks between the club members and the Ministry of the Interior, there is great optimism that Ali Muhammad will receive the status of a temporary sworn in as early as next week.
From a professional point of view, the move will give Maccabi Haifa an outsider's slot and it will be able to strengthen itself in one of these for its participation in the Champions League, along with the Premier League games of course.
In light of the expected departure of Bogdan Palanich, the champion has already started working with the aim of adding a foreign stopper in his place, and the greens will try to dedicate the slot that Ali Muhammad will occupy to a midfielder or a winger.
Ali Mohammed, born in Ghana to a Ghanaian mother and a Nigerian father, began his professional career in Niger and plays for that country's national team.
He came to Israel in 2015, when he signed with Beitar Tel Aviv/Ramla. A year later he signed with Maccabi Netanya and played in its ranks until 2019, when Beitar Jerusalem purchased 60% of his player card.
Last year he signed for three seasons with Maccabi Haifa, won the championship with them and became one of the main screws in Barak Becher's team.
