Juventus, Benfica and Maccabi Haifa: PSG know their group in the Champions League

The balls have delivered their verdict.

This Thursday evening, shortly before 7 p.m. in Istanbul (Turkey) where the final of this edition will take place, the thinking heads of the biggest European clubs were gathered to discover their groups for this edition of the Champions League.

At the end of a long suspense, the former players Hamit Altintop and Yaya Touré, in charge of the draw, therefore revealed to PSG the identity of the three teams which will share their pool: Juventus (Italy), Benfica (Portugal) and Maccabi Haifa (Israel).

Paris-Juventus, a bad memory...

It will be a very long-standing reunion between PSG and Juve, less long-standing for former Parisians Angel Di Maria and Adrien Rabiot.

If this is the very first time that the two teams meet in the Champions League, Parisians and Turinese had already shared the poster in the Coupe des Coupes and the UEFA Cup, in the 1980s and 1990s. The last meeting with the

remains an ugly memory for PSG, since it is the European Super Cup in 1996, which Juve had largely won over the two legs (6-1, 3-1).

In eight official confrontations, Paris has never won against Juve (2 draws, 6 losses).

The last confrontation with the Israelis of Haifa also dates back to the last century: it was in the first round of the Cup of Cups in 1998-99.

Two matches from which Paris had not emerged victorious, with a draw and a defeat.

As far as Benfica is concerned, the last confrontation dates back a little less since the Parisians had already crossed paths with the Lisboètes in the group stage of the C1 during the 2013-14 season.

Result: a big victory (3-0) and a narrow defeat (2-1).

The Portuguese validated their ticket for the competition late by leaving Dynamo kyiv in the play-offs on Wednesday.

Tight schedule before the World Cup

The capital club, like Olympique de Marseille, which landed in group D (Tottenham, Eintracht Frankfurt and Sporting), will know the exact schedule of its group matches later.

The dates of the matches are already known: 1st day on 6 and 7 September, 2nd day on 13 and 14 September, 3rd day on 4 and 5 October, 4th day on 11 and 12 October, 5th day on 26 and October 26, 6th day on November 1 and 2.

Due to the World Cup, which will start on November 20, the calendar of European competitions has had to be tightened, with group matches usually being played every two weeks from the end of September to the beginning of December.
