Mick Schumacher says he's 'ready to fight'

The Haas driver is also driving for his Formula 1 future on a very special route.

Spa-Francorchamps - 30 years after his father's first Formula 1 victory, Mick Schumacher feels more than ever the special connection to the track in Spa-Francorchamps.

"Spa is our family's living room," said the 23-year-old before the Belgian Grand Prix at the weekend.

The special history of the Schumachers in the Ardennes is "always an issue" for him, too, assured the Haas pilot at a charity soccer game in Frankfurt am Main.

Record world champion Michael Schumacher contested his first Grand Prix in Spa in 1991 and won his first Formula 1 race a year later.

In 2004, the Kerpen native secured his seventh and last world title in Belgium.

Son Mick once won his first Formula 3 race at the same place.

"Spa itself is so steeped in history, but also a very special place for us as a family and also for me," said Schumacher.

Mick Schumacher is driving for his future

After the almost four-week summer break, the young star continues to fight for his future in the racing series.

"It felt strange at first, and of course I wanted to get back in the car soon after the start of the holidays," said Schumacher.

His Haas team is taking its time with talks about extending the contract.

According to the media, team boss Günther Steiner also phoned Australian Daniel Ricciardo, who has to leave McLaren after this season.

Mick Schumacher has to keep proving himself.

"Hopefully we can expect more points in the second half of the season," said Schumacher.

After a botched start to the season with two serious accidents, he scored his first twelve points in Formula 1 at Silverstone and Spielberg.

In France and Hungary he again got nothing.

"I'm fully charged and ready to fight," announced Schumacher.
