1. FC Köln has qualified for the group stage of the Conference League.

The groups will be drawn on Friday.

Istanbul - 1. FC Köln was represented internationally for the last time in the 2017/18 season.

Back then, FC played in the Europa League under coach Peter Stöger.

More than the group phase was not possible.

That should get better this season.

The people of Cologne are appearing in the Europa Conference League for the first time.

After losing 2-1 at home to Fehervar FC, coach Steffen Baumgart's team made it through to the group stage with a convincing 3-0 win in Hungary.

From 2 p.m. on Friday, things will get interesting for the club and the fans when the groups are drawn in Istanbul.

From 1 p.m. the lots in the Europa League will be drawn first, followed by those in the Conference League.

Even if it is "only" the third UEFA European Cup competition, 1. FC Köln can expect an attractive, albeit difficult group.

How about Villarreal, Nice and Lech Poznan?

Or West Ham and Anderlecht?
