From darkness to light: Real Madrid returns to the field where it experienced the lows last season
The Blancos' season was on the way to a spin after a 2:1 loss at Espanyol, but the experiment that failed at the beginning with Valverde proved itself on the way to winning the championship and the European Cup.

Real Madrid arrived at the 2021/22 season with many question marks.
Zinedine Zidane made way for Carlo Ancelotti, the squad seemed to have no punch except for Karim Benzema and few imagined that the season would end the way it did - with the Spanish championship and a 14th Champions League win.
The road there in the European sector was full of obstacles - with comebacks against Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City and with a great performance by Thibaut Courtois against Liverpool.
In the league, the challenge was significantly smaller and the campaign went quite smoothly.
For the first time in many years, Real won the title without significant competition and on the way there it suffered very few setbacks.
However, Real's worst-remembered moment from last season in the league came sometime in October, when Ancelotti's side lined up for an away game at Espanyol.

In view of the fact that Eden Hazard and Gareth Bale did not really manage to integrate into the lineup, Ancelotti had to improvise with the third rib in the attack alongside Vinicius and Benzema.
The solution that afternoon in Barcelona?
Federico Valverde.
The dynamic Uruguayan midfielder tried for years to break the triangle in the center of the link that included Casemiro, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, without success, and the Italian decided to conduct an experiment and place him on the wing.
The game came a few days after another embarrassing loss - 2:1 to Sheriff in the Champions League - but the result in the game in Barcelona was also one that Madrid wanted to quickly forget.
The former Raul de Tomas punished in the 17th minute, Elish Vidal stunned in the 60th minute when he made it 0:2.
Benzema managed to shrink towards the end, but Real surrendered 2:1 and suffered the first loss of the season.
Later, Valverde was injured, and Ancelotti put the idea aside.

Rodrigo and Marco Asensio, two born non-scorers, shared the minutes on the right wing, and heading into the crucial stages of the Champions League, Ancelotti re-arranged the Uruguayan and placed him on the right again and again.
The result was much better than in the same loss to Espanyol.
Not only did Valverde contribute on both sides of the field (he scored in the Champions Final) and allowed the midfield trio to continue as usual, but Rodrigo also became a joker from the bench who scored the goals that kept the Whites alive in the European season.
Real already managed to close a circle against Espanyol, after the meeting against them last year at the Bernabeu, they won 0:4 and officially secured the championship win in front of the home crowd.
Tonight (Sunday, 11:00 p.m.) Real will hope to close another circle against the parrots, when this time they arrive much more optimistic than they were in the last visit 11 months ago.
