Created thirty years ago, the Pôle Finistère Course au large remains the benchmark for training elite sailors.

In the summer of 1992, Jean Le Cam won the final stage of the Solitaire du Figaro, which took place between Gijon and Port-la-Forêt.

Michel Desjoyeaux, at 27, winning in his third participation the first of his three successes in the queen event.

Jean Le Cam, he will wait for his eleventh participation to win the first of his three cups.

The feats of arms of these two Finisterians were the triggers for the creation of the Pôle Finistère Course au large on the port built twenty years earlier, between Cap Coz and Concarneau.

Local elected officials and the Brittany Sailing League see this as an opportunity to build a factory for champions.

With Christian Le Pape as project manager and coach Loïc Ponceau, year after year, good riders attract good riders.

As "King John" likes to say, having known all the diverse and varied arrangements that there were to create the entity,

"it is better to be bad with the good than good with the bad".
