Gates

85 minutes:

Despite being outnumbered, the Swabians are more dangerous and curiously closer to scoring the golden goal.

81 minutes:

Instead of the hosts, VfB now has the chance to score the winning goal.

Perea crosses halfway up into the penalty area from the right, where Mavropanos is lurking.

However, the Greek national player does not get the ball. Schmitz clears it.

78th minute:

From FC Köln that's not enough so far.

The Rhinelanders bite their teeth on the Stuttgart defensive.

73 minutes:

Baumgart's team is now pushing hard, but are not yet able to get into the final situations.

71 minutes:

Now VfB coach Pellegrino Matarazzo gets a yellow-red card.

The coach complains loudly on the sidelines.

67 minutes:

Not much has happened here since the red card.

Good for the Swabians: The Cologne team has not yet been able to take advantage of the majority.

Luca Pfeiffer from VfB Stuttgart is sent off with a red card

56 minutes:

Shock for the Swabians!

Pfeiffer unnecessarily straddles Hübers' legs from behind and rightly gets the red card for it.

51 minutes:

Chabot is on the ground again.

This time the Cologne defender twisted his ankle.

He has to go, Hübers is coming for him.

48 minutes:

It's like bewitched.

What an opportunity!

Ahamada drives the ball forward with a lot of self-confidence and puts the ball through at perfect temperature to Silas, who can't get the ball past Schwäbe.

46 minutes:

The ball rolls again.

Half-time conclusion:

There could have been more for VfB Stuttgart, who put the pressure on from the start.

Especially Silas has to use one of the three big chances.

Führich stands out positively, serving Silas well on several occasions.

Cologne, meanwhile, take a long time to get into the game and have nothing to offer apart from the Chabot chance just before half-time.

Accordingly, the host still has room for improvement.

HALFTIME

45th minute +2:

First big opportunity for FC: Ironically, turban man Chabot heads past Stuttgart goalkeeper Müller after a corner.

Mavropanos clears on the line.

45 minutes:

The two teams are now taking it easy again – four minutes of stoppage time.

38 minutes:

What a huge opportunity!

Again, Führich sends Silas on the journey, who is alone towards Schwäbe.

However, the Cologne keeper keeps his box clean with an outstanding foot defense.

It was the third big opportunity for Silas, who needs to take one of the chances.

35 minutes:

While Stuttgart is slacking off, Baumgart's team are slowly fighting their way into the game.

33 minutes:

VfB are still the slightly better team here, but didn't do enough with their superiority.

In the meantime, they no longer come into final situations.

28 minutes:

Fast counterattack by VfB!

However, Führich and Silas don't finish it well.

The Congolese's shot from a tight angle lands on the side netting.

Silas with a good chance for VfB Stuttgart

22 minutes:

This time Sosa lies, but for him it goes on.

game flow?

None!

Duda replaces him.

Cologne's Jeff Chabot has to continue playing with a turban after suffering a head injury

7 minutes:

The corner sails dangerously into the FC penalty area and again it is Mavropanos who this time puts the ball on target with his foot.

However, Schwäbe is there.

5 minutes:

At the corner, Mavropanos heads the ball with a lot of force onto Cologne's goal - but Schwäbe wipes the ball over the goal.

Mavropanos crashed into Chabot, who first had to have his head treated.

For him it goes on with a turban.

4 minutes:

VfB gets into the game well and takes control.

Silas takes a shot in the penalty area, but it is saved to a corner.

1st Minute:

The first chance for VfB.

Luca Pfeiffer replaces Sasa Kalajdzic up front at VfB Stuttgart, while 1. FC Köln are wearing a special shirt

VfB announced in advance that Sasa Kalajdzic asked not to be considered for the game against FC Köln.

Stuttgart's coach Matarazzo complied with this wish.

Instead of Kalajdzic, who is about to change, newcomer Luca Pfeiffer will start.

As in the victory in the Europa Conference League qualifier, Florian Dietz stormed for the Cologne team.

Steffen Tigges has to sit on the bench first.

1. FC Köln will play against VfB in a special jersey as a sign of diversity.

Sasa Kalajdzic no longer in the squad of VfB Stuttgart

Sasa Kalajdzic did not take part in VfB Stuttgart's final training session on Saturday (27 August) and, in agreement with coach Matarazzo, will not be in the squad against Cologne.

Thus, a change of the Austrian is probably imminent.

Nikolas Nartey is missing from VfB Stuttgart due to a torn muscle fibre

Nikolas Nartey, who tore a muscle fiber in his rear right thigh during VfB's win in the friendly against FC St. Gallen on Wednesday, is not there.

The midfielder will be out for two to three weeks.

Tiago Tomas, who was in bed with tonsillitis and fever during the week, will also be absent.

So far, the attacker has not trained with the team again.

Tanguy Coulibaly, meanwhile, is in advanced training and is expected to take part in team training next week.

A mission against FC comes too early for the French.

Borna Sosa is probably available for VfB Stuttgart against Cologne

Cologne/Stuttgart – Before the duel against 1. FC Köln on Sunday (August 28, 3.30 p.m. / DAZN), the future of Sasa Kalajdzic and Borna Sosa is the dominant topic at VfB Stuttgart.

Coach Pellegrino Matarazzo is trying to keep the rumors away from the team.

According to the current status, Kalajdzic and Sosa are available to the Swabians for the game in the Rheinenergie Stadium.

VfB recently suffered a 1-0 defeat against SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga, while FC Köln beat Hungary's Fehervar FC 3-0 in qualifiers for the Europa Conference League on Thursday.
