Despite the encouraging reports in Germany that it appears that the amount of compensation for the victims of the murder of the 11 Munich martyrs 50 years after the tragic event will be increased, Ilana Romano, the widow of the weightlifter Yosef Romano, claims that nothing has yet been agreed upon - all this a few days before the official ceremony in Germany.
"There is no agreement."
Romano emphatically told Israel Hayom: "I have been receiving a lot of calls in the last hour, but it is still in negotiations, which should reach its climax in the coming days. Today the discussions continue, but the published amounts are incorrect."
So what amounts are we talking about?
"Our lawyers will receive the amount and we will see what it is about. If they do come to an understanding, the families will get together for Zoom and if they decide to say yes, then yes."
In the meantime, a series of 50th anniversary events are also being prepared in Israel, with the participation of Thomas Bach, the president of the International Olympic Committee who announced this week that he will come to Israel for the first time to participate in the state ceremony for the massacre in Munich.
Bach will arrive in Israel on September 19 and will stay in Tel Aviv for two and a half days.
Along with his participation in the state memorial ceremony, he is scheduled to visit Yad Vashem and be a guest of President Herzog.
He will visit the Church of the Sepulcher, the Museum of the Olympic Experience in Tel Aviv, and will even meet representatives of families and Israeli Olympic athletes.
