The 22-year-old Brazilian signs a five-year contract and will meet again with Dutch coach Erik ten Hag, with whom he shared a dressing room in Amsterdam

Ajax Amsterdam has decided to transfer its player, Antony (Matheus dos Santos), to Manchester United for 95 million euros.

The figure includes a bonus of another 5, which makes him the most expensive signing this summer and the record sale of an Eredivisie player, as reported by the specialized portal

Transfermarkt

and the Dutch press.

It is also United's second-highest outlay after the club record €105m for Paul Pogba in 2016.

The 22-year-old Brazilian winger will meet again at Old Trafford with Dutch coach Erik ten Hag, who managed him in the last two seasons at Ajax.

Once the medical review is over, he will sign a five-year contract.

Manchester United had been trying to agree on Antony's arrival for several weeks, at the express request of Ten Hag.

After the arrival of Casemiro, the coach had insisted on the need to reinforce the attack.

Ajax, who won the Dutch league last season under the current Red Devils coach, had received a first offer of 80 million euros, but it was rejected.

The player had expressed his desire to change clubs, telling his manager, Alfred Schreuder, that he was "not focused on Ajax".

Due to this, he did not participate in the last two league games, against Sparta Rotterdam and FC Utrecht, both of which ended in victory for Ajax.

Schreuder had been fighting for weeks to prevent Antony from leaving, and his attitude of late had been blamed.

On a TV sports show

Schreuder regretted "the manners" of the footballer, who preferred not to train for the past week and a half.

"I understand that he was disappointed for one or two days, but it's about being professional," he said during the gathering, broadcast on the Rondo program, from the Ziggo Sport pay chain.

Antony, who had a contract until 2025, joined the Dutch team in the summer of 2020 from Sao Paulo FC.

The Dutch board then paid about 15.75 million euros to the Brazilian club for him.

From his early days he was uncovered as a good scorer, and last season, under the command of Ten Hag, he was one of the most outstanding players in the splendid group stage of the Ajax Champions League, in which he achieved full victories.

In total, Antony has added 24 goals and 22 assists in 82 games in his two seasons in the Netherlands.

The 95 million he leaves in Amsterdam make him the best seller of Ajax and of the entire Dutch championship, surpassing the 86 that Barcelona paid for Frenkie de Jong, and the 85 that Juventus left for De Ligt, both from Ajax in the summer of 2019.
