RB Leipzig has expressed interest in Max Eberl as the new sporting director at Borussia Mönchengladbach.
According to a Borussia spokesman on Tuesday, the first talks about a possible agreement between the Bundesliga clubs were “but not productive”.
The Sky broadcaster had previously reported on Tuesday that RB had agreed with Eberl that he should start as the new sports director in Leipzig on December 1, 2022.
However, Leipzig's club boss Oliver Mintzlaff denied this: "Yes, we are interested in Max Eberl and yes, we have had initial talks.
On the other hand, what is reported completely incorrectly is that there is already an agreement and a starting date.
Of course we informed Gladbach of our interest, nothing more and nothing less has happened so far," Mintzlaff told the "Bild".
According to information from the sports information service, there are still some open details to be clarified – including after a possible transfer.
Eberl resigned as sporting director at Borussia at the end of January, citing health reasons.
"The person Max Eberl is exhausted and tired," Eberl said at the time through tears.
"I no longer have the strength to do this job the way the club needs it." He had to find a line.
"I need to get out.
I have to take care of people.
It is the highest responsibility I have to take care of my health.«
Eberl was considered the preferred candidate in Leipzig
However, his contract, which ran until 2026, was not terminated, it was only suspended.
The 48-year-old was still employed by Gladbach, but did not receive any salary.
There has recently been increasing speculation about his entry into RB Leipzig.
Eberl is considered the preferred candidate by RB managing director Mintzlaff.
In Leipzig, the ex-professional would close a gap that had existed for more than a year, predecessor Markus Krösche had gone to Eintracht Frankfurt.
