Due to health problems, Thomas Häßler can no longer work as a coach for Berlin's sixth division club BFC Preussen.

"I'm currently not able to train a team as long as I don't know what I have," said the 1990 world champion of "Bild" on Tuesday.

On the second day of the game, the 56-year-old had to stop his speech before the game at Hilalspor because of health problems.

According to the "Bild" report, Hässler complained of neck pain and no longer knew what he wanted to say.

Accordingly, he now also suffers from tinnitus.

Cause unknown so far

There is no diagnosis so far, the causes could not be determined.

“We currently don't know what Thomas has.

Football is great, but now it's about him getting healthy in peace, "said Prussia's sporting director Pierre Seiffert when asked by the German Press Agency.

The club has already responded to Hässler's illness.

Daniel Volbert will look after the team until further notice.

"I talked to Thomas for a long time and we looked for a solution together," said Seiffert.

'We're not releasing him.

Thomas will always be a Prussian and I hope he will come back to us soon.« Volbert is confident that he can help out at short notice.

"He knows the Berlin league inside and out," said Seiffert.

Hässler is now on sick leave, Seiffert told the "Bild".

What function he will have in the future depends on Hässler's state of health.

BFC Preussen plays in the Berlin-Liga, the sixth highest division in Germany.

With just one point from four games, the club is currently 14th in the table.

World Champion and European Champion

Häßler was born in Berlin. As a junior, the 1.66 meter tall midfielder, nicknamed »Icke«, played for Meteor 06 Berlin and Reinickendorfer Füchsen.

In the professional field he worked for various clubs: His most important stations were 1. FC Köln, AS Roma, Karlsruher SC and 1860 Munich.

Between 1988 and 2000, Hässler played 101 international matches for the German national team, with which the midfielder won two major titles: the 1990 World Cup in Italy and the 1996 European Championship in England.

He was one of the top performers at both tournaments, and in 1992 he was voted Germany's footballer of the year.

As a coach, Hässler had less success.

After several positions as an assistant coach, he took over the Berlin district league club Italia 80 in 2016, which he led to the state league.

BFC Preussen took over Hässler for the 2019/2020 season.
