Leader Remco Evenepoel has won the individual time trial of the Tour of Spain.

The Belgian professional cyclist was 48 seconds faster than second-placed Primož Roglič on Tuesday after 30.9 kilometers from Elche to Alicante.

Third was France's Remy Cavagna, who needed a minute more than his teammate Evenepoel.

In the overall standings, Evenepoel increased his lead to 2:41 minutes ahead of Roglič, the Vuelta winner of the past three years, and local hero Enric Mas (+3:03).

The number of corona cases in the driver's field has risen to 15

Meanwhile, the corona cases are piling up.

The Brit Ethan Hayter no longer competed in the time trial, as his team Ineos had announced.

Two-time stage winner Sam Bennett also tested positive on Tuesday morning, the German team Bora-hansgrohe said on Twitter.

On the rest day on Monday, the Dane Mathias Norsgaard from the Movistar team tested positive.

Since the Vuelta started on August 19, more than a dozen drivers have been eliminated due to positive corona findings.

At the Tour de France, 17 professionals who tested positive had to end the race prematurely in July.

On Wednesday, the eleventh, mostly flat stage over 191.2 kilometers from Alhama de Murcia to Cabo de Gata is on the agenda.

The 77th edition of the Vuelta ends on September 11th with the 21st stage and the arrival in Madrid.
