After the historic agreement today (Wednesday) between the families of the 11 Munich martyrs and the German government, many welcomed the agreement.

State President Yitzhak Herzog said:

"I thank my friend, German President Frank Walter Steinmeier for his leadership and uncompromising commitment to a course of justice, humanity and responsibility.

This is not the first time that President Steinmeier proves that he is a close friend of Israel, and that his work has a great contribution to the warm relationship between Israel and Germany."

"I would like to express my appreciation for the important step taken by the German government under the leadership of Chancellor Schulz, a step at the heart of which stands for taking responsibility and correcting the historical injustice done to the families of the victims of the Munich Olympics."

"I would also like to thank the Minister of Culture and Sports Hili Tropper and the President's Advisor on Foreign Relations Shirley Heller, who together with the teams worked day and night to find a solution. My thanks to the teams that acted as part of the move, headed by the Israeli Olympic Committee headed by Yael Arad, the advisors of the German President, the German Embassy in Israel and the Israeli Embassy in Germany I believe that after 50 years of the disaster, the time has come to find a balm for the grieving families, and to teach the lessons of the tragedy, including the importance of the fight against terrorism, to future generations."

German President Frank Walter Steinmeier said:

"My thoughts are with the bereaved families.

I am grateful and relieved that a solution has been found which opens the door to a joint commemoration ceremony in memory of the martyrs.

I thank my friend and colleague President Yitzhak Herzog for his trust, his involvement and for keeping the path of dialogue between the parties open."

Minister of Culture and Sports Hili Troper:

"After fifty years, justice is beginning to emerge. Germany acknowledges its share of responsibility for the terrible murder that took place on its soil, it will allow access to confidential materials about the terrorist incident and will provide fair financial compensation to the families of the victims."

Yael Arad, Chairman of the Olympic Committee in Israel:

"For 50 years, the families waited for justice to be done to ease the cycle of terrible pain that began with the murder of the athletes at the Olympic Games in Munich.

The feelings of loss are etched in the families and the Israeli public and remain as an open, bleeding wound."

"Finally something happened and the German government takes responsibility in a clear statement to the whole world. The moves and actions of the last few weeks have resulted in us being able to look directly at the families who knew that the state and the entire people of Israel are with them and the support given to them is profound and significant."

Arad continued: "I announced and my friends and I resolutely stood by the statement that we will not reach Munich without the families. I welcome the agreement and now we can arrive together strong and united with the heart still aching but the back straight and the head held high. The message has passed and will pass to the whole world knowing that such a massacre resonates and there is a price On him even 50 years later."
