After almost 62 hard-fought minutes, the Tölzer Löwen beat Deggendorfer SC 2-1 after extra time in a friendly.

– It wasn't an ice hockey spectacle that the Tölzer Löwen and Deggendorfer SC offered to the 463 spectators on Friday evening.

It was more like hard work.

"I'm slowly seeing tactical improvements," commented coach Ryan Foster on the success in the fourth test game.

Perennial Greilinger involved in all crucial scenes

Thomas Greilinger is a phenomenon.

Already in the 1997/98 season he played with the Deggendorfers in Bad Tölz.

At that time the club was still called Deggendorfer EC, the league was called Hacker-Pschorr-Liga and the Tölzer jersey featured players like Vladimir Kames, Petr Taticek and Axel Kammerer.

25 years later, Greilinger is still on the ice - and last night was involved in almost all of the decisive scenes - both positively and negatively.

After 43 minutes it was Greilinger who, after a cross pass from Yannic Bauer, pushed the puck over the goal line to make it 1-0.

In the 55th minute it was again the Deggendorf long-running favorite who was the focus: this time he was a bit too in love with the puck in the Tölz third and had Tyler Ward take the disc away from him.

The most dangerous Tölzer started a breathtaking solo across the entire ice surface, looked very closely at what DEC goalkeeper Timo Pielmeier was doing - and flicked the puck to Kreuzeck to equalize.

When spectators and teams were already preparing for the journey home, the captains decided after a short discussion that there would be an extension after all.

Here it was Ward again, who scored a slap shot after a pass from Johannes Sedlmayr to make it 2-1.

"Basically a good match"

"Basically it was a good game," concluded Ryan Foster.

"After the 0:1 the team didn't give up but kept fighting.

It's important for the coach to see that.

We only win when we are ambitious and biting and when the attitude to work is great.” Success is important for morale, “because we will often play against Deggendorf in the next six or seven months”.

And against the indestructible Thomas Greilinger.
