2022-09-03T06:52:58.929Z

Billie Jean King, Ounes Jabour, Michael Phelps, Michael Johnson and Barack Obama are just some of the huge list that went out of their way to separate from Williams, who just before her 41st birthday hung up her racket

The expected retirement of Serena Williams from tennis, 27 years after she first stepped on the court as a professional player, filled the masses of fans with feelings of love.

She received countless congratulations and best wishes, shortly after losing to Ayala Tomilanovic in the third round of the US Open, a loss that ended her career on the court.

The Twitter accounts for Roland Garros, Wimbledon, the Australian Open and the US Open launched a barrage of thank you tweets.

With them you could also find the tennis legend Billie Jean King, Ones Jabour, the swimmer Michael Phelps, the legendary sprinter Michael Johnson and also the former President of the United States Barack Obama.

All are welcome, and this is only a partial list.

Her incredible career made its mark on tennis history.

And yet her greatest contributions may be yet to come.

Thank you, @serenawilliams.

Your journey continues.
