Racing driver Juan Manuel Correa has made it onto the podium again almost exactly three years after his terrible accident at Spa.
The American took second place in the ART car on Saturday in the Formula 3 sprint in Zandvoort in the Netherlands. Having started from pole position, he only had to give way to the Brazilian Caio Collet (MP Motorsport).
In the overall standings, Frenchman Isack Hadjar (Hitech) held his lead with sixth place in the sprint race. With 111 points, he is now just ahead of his compatriot Victor Martins (ART/108).
On Sunday (8.45 a.m. / Sky) the main race of Formula 3 will take place in Zandvoort.
Correa had been a development driver for the Alfa Romeo Formula 1 team until his Formula 2 accident on August 31, 2019 in Spa-Francorchamps, in which Frenchman Anthoine Hubert died.
His car hit Hubert's wrecked car at 270 km/h.
Correa suffered around 20 fractures to both legs and feet, two broken vertebrae and lung damage in the crash.
The Ecuadorian-American spent two weeks in an induced coma and underwent 25 surgeries, undergoing more than a year of rehab.
He got back into Formula 3 last year and is still struggling with the physical consequences of the accident.
