FC Bayern has had a strong summer of transfers.

Sport director Hasan Salihamidzic tells how the transfers are decided.

Munich – FC Bayern is starting this season with an almost completely renewed team.

And that seems to be paying off.

After five competitive games, coach Julian Nagelsmann's team is still unbeaten and has already clinched its first title of the season with the DFL Supercup.

The transfers of Sadio Mané and Matthijs de LIgt were particularly celebrated, for which FCB was crowned transfer champion in a fan survey.

FC Bayern: Brazzo was missing more than 100 million euros – sports director with an admission of guilt

Unlike the rather disappointing transfer summer of 2021, the Bayern bosses completed their plans early this season.

A super computer is said to have helped them.

In an interview with the

FAZ

, Hasan Salihamidzic gives new insights into the plans of the record champions.

Hasan Salihamidzic

Born: January 1, 1977 in Jablanica, Bosnia-Herzegovina

Stations as a player: Hamburger SV, FC Bayern, Juventus Turin, VfL Wolfsburg

Greatest success: Champions League winner 2001

Official at FC Bayern since: July 31, 2017

"In the first phase of the pandemic, we didn't have the financial means to do everything we wanted to do.

We were missing far more than 100 million euros”, “Brazzo” looks back and admits his own mistakes.

Not all newcomers "performed the way they themselves and how we had imagined." Another transfer misunderstanding could even leave FC Bayern - even though the transfer window is already closed.

"A lot worked out in this transfer summer": FC Bayern still wants to avoid further upheaval

This year went a lot better.

"Sometimes a plan works, sometimes it doesn't.

A lot worked out in this summer of transfers – that's why we did a lot.

I always say: The transfer market is also a gamble," says Salihamidzic.

However, one of Bayern's long-term problems is still unresolved.

Nevertheless, a major upheaval like this season should remain the exception: "There probably won't be as much movement in our squad in the next few years as there was this summer."

With a clear career plan, the Bayern bosses were able to convince the new players from FC Bayern.

Sadio Mané, for example, raved about the negotiations with the record champions.

"We presented the players we wanted to sign what we had created over the past few years: a team of very high quality, with an age structure that is structured in such a way that we can win titles in the next three, four, five years ' said the sports director.

Brazzo explains: This is how FC Bayern was able to assert itself against the competition on the transfer market

In this way, it was possible to set itself apart from the international competition, which, according to Salihamidzic, had a significantly larger budget.

“In the end we prevailed against clubs that offered more salary.

We made it so that the players didn't just decide based on money," said the 45-year-old.

The already well-stocked FC Bayern coffers can look forward to another million blessing in the Champions League.

However, Brazzo makes it clear: "We didn't want to do anything crazy."

Even three years after his departure, Uli Hoeneß is still present at FC Bayern.

In the case of Robert Lewandowski, for example, he spoke a word of power.

“We like to discuss.

My opinion, his opinion.

In the end we have the same goal: that FC Bayern is doing well," says Hasan Salihamidzic: "Uli is a friend of the club - and a friend of mine.

We talk a lot.”

Salihamidzic makes it clear: "We don't just look at what Uli says"

The talks did not follow a clear procedure, according to the sports director: "Oliver

(Kahn, CEO, editor's note)

and I run the business.

First we always go to Herbert Hainer

(President and Chairman of the Supervisory Board, ed.)

.

Then he talks to Uli.

Then I'll talk to Uli." Despite everything, Salihamidzic makes it clear who has the say: "But we don't just look at what Uli says.

He has a right to be informed and asked.

But we make the decision in the Executive Board.”

The accusation that Hoeneß could not distance himself from FC Bayern was rejected by his "foster son".

“He agrees with most decisions.

I find him very relaxed.

The way we want Uli.

He shouldn't even let go.

FC Bayern is his life's work.

It's only sensible and right to take him with us," he says.

In the meantime, Salihamidzic has managed to “emancipate” himself in his position.

Hasan Salihamidzic: "But there were also times when it wasn't so easy for me here"

Logically, the sports director also works closely with the coach on transfer issues.

"It's not like I come in March and say: I want the player," emphasizes Salihamidzic and explains: "It's a process.

And with Julian

(Nagelsmann, ed.) it

works well.”

This also leads to greater acceptance among fans.

In the past, Brazzo had to listen to a lot from the fans: "But there were also times when it wasn't so easy for me here.

When I was in town, the feedback wasn't what I'd like.” But that's changed.

"I'm happy that the picture of me is the way I want it to be," says the sports director gratefully.
