TOPS

Paris was scared but does not miss its comeback

In search of regularity after several failed seasons, Stade Français Paris did not tremble this Saturday against Clermont (24-18), to launch its 2022-2023 season.

The start was more than sluggish (see below) but Gonzalo Quesada's players finally made the difference thanks to tries from Naivalu (28th) and Habel-Küffner (44th).

There are still plenty of things to review, but overall the Parisians were able to dominate the Auvergnats who took far too long to wake up (try by Ezeala in the 57th and Beheregaray in the 62nd).

Insufficient to turn the tide.

Next week, the task will be much more difficult for the Parisians on the hostile lawn of Castres, vengeful after their defeat against Racing 92 in the opening.

To see if Paris has reached a milestone and can look up the rankings.

Parra, a first to be confirmed

For his first match under his news and against his former club, Morgan Parra signed a clean performance, without frills but without flashes either.

The former international scrum half was invaluable in his game under pressure, he – equal to himself – perfectly cornered his forwards, not hesitating to tell them what to do.

The ex-ASM player nevertheless suffered to quickly release the balls behind the rucks.

On the other hand, he is involved twice in the Naivalu test (28th).

It was believed that he was seriously injured in the 50th minute after a telescoping with his winger Harry Glover.

But he regained his place after a few minutes, even though he had a large ice pack placed on his right knee at the end of the match.

Worrying… Still, the

Parra's imprint on the Parisian group can already be seen.

You will have to get used to seeing it evolve into pink.

And get the idea that he did not join the capital in pre-retirement.

Note that, for the moment, it is Joris Segonds (decisive at the end of the match this Saturday) who is still the scorer for the Soldats Roses.

Habel-Küffner hits hard

A colossus game.

Facing the Clermontois, Giovanni Habel-Küffner was one of the strong men of Parisian success.

With his horses dyed pink, it's hard to miss.

In the field, too.

Mammoth charges, fearsome physical density and a constant presence in the heart of the fight.

The former Section Paloise player impressed in his new colors.

By registering in particular, after an impressive charge in the Clermont defense, the second try of his team.

The statistics of the Samoan international (but who has a German passport) illustrate his full part: 52 m covered, one crossing, six tackles and six defenders beaten.

Formidable weapon for the Stade Français Paris.

FLOPS

The ignition delay of the Jaunards

In the trough of the wave for a few seasons, the ASM is "under reconstruction".

Long a reference in attacking rugby in the Top 14, the Auvergne club is struggling to regain its momentum and its offensive strike force.

And, this Saturday, the Clermontois did not show an enthusiastic face.

Unable to speed up the game, create lags and be dangerous.

It took until the 57th minute for them to find the fault through Ezeala, after two scrums in front of the Parisian goal.

And to drive the nail in force by Beheregaray (62nd) and to return to equality.

An improvement that has not been confirmed, since Segonds, thanks to two penalties, gave the victory to the locals.

Manager Jono Gibbes still has his work cut out for him.

The Jaunards, long sluggish in the game and caught up in aggressiveness,

A sluggish recovery

Inevitably, it was the first game of the season and the teams need to roam, to (re) find automatisms.

This Saturday at Jean-Bouin, Parisians and Clermontois delivered a sluggish start to the match.

Little inspiration in attack, hiccups on both sides in touch and an obvious lack of rhythm.

The game took a while to ignite, it took until the 28th minute to see a corner try from Stade Français by Naivalu, served by a “quarterback” pass from Gabrillagues.

Before the match falls back into a plan-plan rhythm.

With a few rare flashes and many approximations.

A forward here, a scratch there… Paris managed to pack the game on the way back from the locker room, sealing their victory with a superb hard try from Habel-Küffner (44th).

Before getting a few scares after the two ASM tests.

Too much inconstancy on both sides.
