Primož Roglič has come closer to the overall lead in the Tour of Spain Vuelta a España.
On the final climb of the 160.3-kilometer 14th stage to Sierra de La Pandera, the Slovenian professional cyclist from Team Jumbo-Visma distanced himself from his competitor Remco Evenepoel and is now only 1:49 minutes behind the Belgian.
The stage win went to Olympic champion Richard Carapaz, who finished eight seconds ahead of Colombian Miguel Ángel López (Astana) and Roglič.
It was the second day's victory for the 29-year-old Ecuadorian at the 77th Vuelta, he had already triumphed on Thursday.
Jonas Koch from the Bora-hansgrohe team crossed the finish line as the best German.
The 29-year-old finished 93rd.
The German starters are still waiting for the first stage victory in this year's Tour of Spain.
On Sunday, the peloton is already faced with the next task.
The 15th stage, 152.6 kilometers long, offers more than 4000 meters of altitude difference and a difficult final climb in the high mountains of the Sierra Nevada.
There will be no rest day until the final part on September 11th.
