Zandvoort - Max Verstappen had no trouble starting from the end of the field in Spa and still clinching a superior victory.
The demonstration of power by the Dutchman and Red Bull gave rise to fears: the excitement in Formula 1 is over again. But of all things, at Verstappen's home Grand Prix in Zandvoort (all information about the broadcast can be found here) Ferrari is again on an equal footing.
The reigning world champion secured pole to the thunderous cheers of thousands of Oranje fans, both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz in the Ferrari were fast.
So fast that the race on Sunday promises to be a lot of excitement.
Formula 1 in Zandvoort: Mick Schumacher can hope for points
German fans also have another reason to cheer: Mick Schumacher put in a strong qualifying session, beating his team-mate Kevin Magnussen by almost a full second and starting from eighth place.
Sebastian Vettel, on the other hand, only starts the race from 19th place.
A driving error by the Heppenheimer in the last corner ruined his extremely fast lap and prevented a better placement.
In between, qualifying had to be interrupted because of a burning Bengalos on the track.
Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff spoke to many people when he raged about "idiots" in the stands and warned of deadly consequences for the drivers.
"At 300 km/h you don't want to be distracted by smoke," said Ferrari driver Sainz.
We are following the race in Zandvoort here (hopefully without such incidents) in the live ticker.
The starting shot is at 3 p.m.
