Maccabi Haifa players upon landing in Lisbon (Shloma Weiss)

About 1,000 Maccabi Haifa fans are expected to land in Lisbon today (Monday) ahead of the Greens' match against Benfica in the first round of the group stage of the Champions League.

In recent days, about 200 fans have arrived independently in the capital of Portugal, while today the main mass of them will arrive on pre-arranged flights just for the benefit of Maccabi Haifa fans, who will land one after the other from the early afternoon until the evening hours.

It is estimated that around 2,000 fans will come to Lisbon to cheer on the team at the Stadium of Light.

They and about 1,500 other Maccabi Haifa fans will support Lisbon.

Those who are already in Lisbon are Eli and Shoham Goldstein, a father and daughter from Karmiel who came especially for the game: "It's really a dream to be here with my daughter," said Goldstein, "I was 13 years ago at the games in the previous campaign, and we didn't get any points. This time I hope we get something."

Regarding the fact that in this campaign, unlike Maccabi Haifa's previous appearance in the group stage of the Champions League, he is with his daughter, he said: "My daughter is really a green box, she is a passionate fan and it is a dream."

In conclusion, Goldstein and his daughter clarified that despite the priority of Benfica, they and the other fans believe that they did not come here in vain: "I expect a surprise tomorrow that will shake Europe."
