Munich – "After 13 years of professional football, I'm announcing the end of my career as an active player," writes Holger Badstuber to his fans on Facebook.

The 33-year-old announced the end of his career on Monday morning.

Badstuber spent 15 years at FC Bayern, from youth to professional football.

The defender last played for FC Luzern in Switzerland until December 2021.

"With 31 senior international matches, participation in World Cups and European Championships, six German championships, four DFB Cup victories, winning the Champions League, the Club World Cup, the UEFA Supercup and three national Supercups, I can look back on a successful period.

Of course, I would have wished for a few less serious injuries.

But the joy of what has been achieved is very great.

I'm grateful for everything," said Badstuber, explaining his decision to retire from active football.

The central defender made 177 appearances for Bayern Munich and scored two goals.

Badstuber also played for Schalke and Stuttgart in the Bundesliga.

In the summer of 2017, Badstuber left Bayern for Stuttgart after a six-month loan at Schalke.
