Benfika training before Maccabi Haifa (Shlomo Weiss, Lisbon)

A new season of the Champions League will start tomorrow (Tuesday, 22:00), and for the first time in seven years there will also be an Israeli representative there.

Maccabi Haifa passed Olympiakos, Apollon Limassol and Red Star Belgrade on the way to the prestigious group stage, where it will meet Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Benfica - its first opponent.

Benfica Lisbon held the final training ahead of tomorrow and the Portuguese attach great importance to the game against the champion of Israel and make it clear that any result other than a victory will be considered a great failure.

"If we don't win tomorrow, it will be a catastrophe," states a local journalist named Pedro, "Benfica's goal is to finish in second place because there is a belief that they can compete with Juventus - but for that Benfica must beat Juventus and Maccabi Haifa at home."

In Benfica, the Israeli opponent is not well known, but the player who attracted the most attention of all is the striker Franzi Piero, who is feared in Benfica.

The fact that three of the team's senior defenders will not play also worries the locals, and as you know, the young Antonio Silva is expected to start in the lineup.

Outside the training complex, about ten fans were waiting for the local players to cheer them on for the game.

"We win tomorrow, that's clear," said one of the fans, "it will be easy, because we are a much better team."
