Israel's men's water polo team lost today (Tuesday) to the Romanian team in a penalty shootout.

After 8:8 at the end of legal time, the Romanians managed to score three penalties against Israel's two.

On Thursday, the team will meet the loser of the match between the Netherlands and Serbia for the battle for the 11th-12th places in Europe. 

The game opened with a Romanian goal, when right after Roni Gross scored Israel's first goal of the game.

Gross later added another goal, and two minutes to the end of the first quarter, the Romanians scored an equalizing goal that determined the result, 2:2.

The second quarter began with a goal by Uri Bozaglo that put Israel in the lead and another one by Gross.

Two Romanian goals equalized the result and at halftime it was 4:4.

In the third quarter, the Romanians managed to make a change and took the lead.

A fourth goal of the game by Ronnie Gross leveled the score once more and then a precise penalty by Romania restored their lead.

A goal by Gal Chaimovich less than half a minute before the end of the third quarter made it 6:6, with Yahav Pierre guarding the Israeli goal with two great saves in the last attack of the quarter. 

The decisive quarter of the match opened with a goal by the Romanians in the first attack, but Israel's man of the match, Ronnie Gross, responded with another goal that forced a tie.

The goals from side to side continued and the Romanians returned to the lead, but on the other side a precise penalty by captain Ido Goldschmidt 50 seconds to the end established equality again.

The game was dragged into a penalty shootout at the end of which the Romanians won 2-3.

The day after tomorrow (11:00) as mentioned, the team will meet the loser in the meeting between the Netherlands and Serbia for the match for places 11-12.
